Sunrise and Perpetual Moon: A Luxurious Rebirth

Transforming Oriental Palace Emblems into a Modern Residence

From calligraphic works to ancient artifacts, the Sunrise and Perpetual Moon design draws inspiration from Taiwan's National Palace Museum, infusing luxury and natural textures into a modern living space.

Taiwan's National Palace Museum is a cultural treasure trove, showcasing thousands of years of oriental palace transitions. This historic collection has inspired designers like Ching-Ya Chou to create unique and luxurious spaces. In response to the global trend of simple luxury, Chou's design aims to promote the rebirth of a new kind of luxury residence.

The design of Sunrise and Perpetual Moon stands out with its use of natural textures and totems, transformed from palace emblems of deluxe and abundance. One notable feature is the wooden grate partition at the hallway entrance, layered with a metal net to create an oriental window frame aesthetic. This design language of symmetry and repetition reflects the beauty found in oriental aesthetics.

The interior of Sunrise and Perpetual Moon spans 160 square meters and showcases the designer's attention to detail. The use of golden colors, including golden amber at the bar and kitchen, as well as gold foil over the dining table, symbolizes ancient royal glory. These elements not only evoke an image of living in affluence but also fill the space with magnificent light.

A key highlight of the design is the display of a complete piece of Chibi marble slab with natural textures. This marble slab brings out a surging momentum, reminiscent of the imagery found in Chinese splash-ink paintings. Placed at the hallway entrance, it creates a sense of serenity and allows for mood conversion when returning home.

The Sunrise and Perpetual Moon design project was completed in August 2015 in Taipei City, Taiwan. The creative team, led by Ching-Ya Chou and Chun-Fong Wu, overcame various challenges to bring this design to life. Their goal was to convey the hidden language of millenary humanistic development through the use of oriental elements and natural textures.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the Iron A' Design Award in 2018. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The Sunrise and Perpetual Moon design stands out for its integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, contributing to a better world.
